the Stories we share

Stories are the soul of our mountain community, and the Wrangell Mountains Center has always been committed to this ancient art form
We believe in the power of community and the stories we share, stories that hold us together, particularly now, during times of tension and change. We host writer’s workshops, local writer’s circles, Word Jams, and we recently launched The End of The Road, a podcast that explores our mountain culture and remote Alaskan communities.

Nancy cook, emcee and auctioneer
That’s right, Nancy’s back!
Tall Tales is an important fundraiser for the Wrangell Mountains Center, which is especially true this year. There will be a silent auction as well as a drive to raise money for a new well.
Nancy never ceases to entertain. Nancy is a writer, writing instructor, renowned storyteller in her own right—claiming the 1993 Tall Tales crown—and auctioneer extraordinaire. As an example, In order to up bids on backcountry trips, Nancy has been known to throw in a spontaneous gift of free babysitting to sweeten the deal.
